The Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre opened its doors in 1984, in an attempt to deliver an emergency supply of food to families who needed help making ends meet.
Poverty and hunger should not exist, but it does. It is naïve to believe that in this modern day people are not forced to subside on very little and to merely survive from month to month on low incomes and very little food. The goal of the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre is to be able to close our doors and to know that all people in Saskatoon have enough food to eat.

This, however, is not a reality at this time. The Saskatoon Food Bank’s hamper pickup program has been increasing in past years with now more than 12,000 users each month, half of which are children.

We opened the Learning Centre at the Food Bank 15 years ago to respond to the needs of people in our community by not only providing them with the basic need of food, but also to assist them to get out of poverty through learning, training and educational support. The Learning Centre has expanded and now offers more programs and services than ever before.

Our Clothing Depot was also opened 15 years ago to help low-income citizens of Saskatoon purchase good quality, seasonal clothing and to access basic household items like shampoo, dish soap and diapers at a cost of only $2.00 per visit. The Clothing Depot will temporarily be closed for necessary renovations as of July 21, 2008.  The Clothing Depot is set to re-open on the 1st of September; due to lack of space within the Depot we are not able to accept donations of clothing and small household items, to ensure the renovations go along as planned, until the re-opening on September 1st.  Thank you for your patience and cooperation with this matter.

The Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre offers valuable programs and services to residents of Saskatoon to help them get out of poverty. We are able to stay open with the generous support of the citizens of Saskatoon. Without our business, organization and individual donors, the Food Bank would not exist. We know that people care about members of our community by your wonderful support. Thank you for the compassionate assistance you’ve given to the sustenance of the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre.
