The Garden Patch is once again getting ready for the 2013 growing season! We invite businesses, community groups, or volunteers to form a team and adopt-a-plot in the garden, which they will plant, care-for and harvest through the season. There will be lots of ways to get involved this year!
The Garden Patch is a community-driven urban agriculture initiative of the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre. Each year, a vacant city-owned lot in the heart of Saskatoon is transformed into a green thriving garden. The Garden Patch is planted, care-for, and harvested by volunteers to be distributed in food hampers. Over 55,000 lbs of fresh, nutritious food has been produced and distributed to hungry families and individuals in your community, in just three years!
Check out our Garden Patch Business Volunteer Flyer if you are interested in forming a team to Adopt -a-plot. You can find a list of what to expect here There will also be opportunities for individuals to lend a hand on Group Days. These will be specific days throughout the season that we will invite the comunity to come help with big jobs, such as planting, weeding, and harvest. We will start our new initiative, Weedin' Wednesday, in July. Every Wednesday, fom 4pm to 8pm the doors of the Garden Patch will be open for volunteers to drop in, lend a hand and enjoy the garden. No Green Thumb required, but if you have a skill you would like to share, we will work with you to best utilize your talents.
Check out our 2013 Garden Wish-list! We welcome donations of materials, time and funds so that we can work together to ensure our most vulnerable community members have access to fresh, nutritious food. Generous support from our community is the reason our programs and services continue to 'grow'.
