Our community is full of amazing people. During my time employed with the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre I have come to accept that I can’t assume I know where the day will take me.

Volunteers, clients and colleagues share their time, skills, and amazing stories of resilience, philanthropy, empathy, courage and compassion every single day. It is our joy and privilege to share these stories and see how they inspire others to do something amazing for our community.

Everyone has unique skills and passions to contribute and we love getting to know what that is. This Giving Tuesday we welcomed two energetic volunteer groups from our Riversdale neighbours, the Two Twenty, home for many of the city's creative and progressive industries and businesses. Each year during the holiday season the fine folks at the Two Twenty collect food to donate and this year they set a goal of collecting enough for 50 children! Carrie asked us how, together, we could create a bigger impact throughout the entire year. We decided to start with GivingTuesday and a creative collaboration to motivate the masses through social media.

GivingTuesday is a global day of giving. After the sales of Black Friday and Cyber Monday,GivingTuesday is a time to celebrate and encourage activities that support non profits. Whether it’s making a donation, volunteering time, helping a neighbour or spreading the word, GivingTuesday is a movement for everyone who wants to give something back.

The volunteers from the Two Twenty crafted social media hype in the lead up and during their volunteer shift with us. You can follow their involvement on twitter using @yxefoodbank @220yxe #GivingTuesday and #amazing YXE

We LOVED the creative energy and collaboration and look forward to working more with the Two Twenty. We'll be posting their blog posts below, check back for more as the week progresses.

April 6-12 is National Volunteer Week

Volunteers are the heart of our community!  Last year volunteers contributed over 12,000 hours of service to the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre!  Without their commitment and kindness we simply could not operate.  Thank you volunteers, for all that you to do make our community a better place!

Did you know that over 60% of Saskatoon citizens volunteer?  Join the crowd! Click here for more information about volunteering at the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre.
