For over twenty years, the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre has offered income tax services to low income earners. Last year, the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program had a major impact in the community, filing over 6,300 tax returns, putting $16 Million back into the community. The program is able to operate to this capacity thanks to the energy and enthusiasm from over 50 volunteers interested in making a difference in their community.
The Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre will once again be offering the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program and we're looking for committed volunteers to help out! The 2017 Tax Clinic is running from March 1st, 2017 through to May 12th, 2017. There are 4 roles for interested volunteers, each with varying time and training commitments:
1. Tax Filer role will assist individuals in filing their taxes.
2. Independent Tax Filing Support roll will oversee the two computers set up to allow individuals to file their own taxes independently. This role will only provide oversight and help as needed.
3. Admin Support role will perform all client intakes; making sure everyone has what they need to complete their tax return. This person will also be keeping all records.
4. The Greeter role is the welcoming smile and director of traffic. They will show people where to go and move people through the clinic as needed. They will answer simple questions and direct people to waiting areas or to their assigned tax filer.
Want to help out but don't have any tax filing experience? Not to worry! We will provide training to all volunteers to ensure they have what they need to support our participants!
